Things to do
The Wheatsheaf Inn is situated in the heart of the Cotswolds making an ideal base for excursions throughout the Cotswolds. We would be delighted to assist you during your visit so please ask us for more information but in the meantime please click on the icons below for some of our favourite places and things to do:
Through our partners, we can arrange days for almost any level in some the county's most beautiful private estates. We also have a number of syndicate days available.
We can arrange clay pigeon shooting at a number of estates locally or at Ian Coley's Shooting School which is only 5 miles from the Inn. Ian was named in July's edition of the Shooting Times as one of the best 100 shots this country has ever had. He was manager and coach of the British Clay Target Shooting Team for the last 25 years and in the Sydney Olympics in 2000 he coached Richard Faulds to his Olympic Gold medal in the Double Trap so he should be able to sort out any issues!
Through our partner, the Fly Fisher Group, we have got some exceptional chalk stream fishing available on a private beat on the River Coln, available until September. The fishing is in a quintessential Cotswold Valley close to the inn and is dry fly and and nymph fishing. It is mainly for stocked brown trout and some wild trout as well.
RACING IN CHELTENHAM...
The world famous Cheltenham Racecourse is only 10 miles away with fixtures throughout the season.www.cheltenham.co.uk. We can book taxis to and from the track. On the Monday before the Gold Cup week begins Nick Luck from Channel 4 Racing, the Morning Line and sporting broadcaster of the year 2007, 2008 and 2009 and Kim Bailey do a mark the card evening from 7pm. Kim is well known but for just in case you need persuasion he has trained over a 1000 winners and is the only current trainer to have achieved the magical "Big Three", The Grand National (Mr Frisk, 1990), The Cheltenham Gold Cup (Master Oats, 1995) and The Champion Hurdle (Alderbrook, 1995). It gets very busy so please book.
